Your true R

Each trade against the risk you set for it, after costs, so trades still compare when your risk changes.

The plan you set

Risk, stop, target, partials and breakeven as they were when you clicked, next to what really happened.

A weekly review

Your week in R and money, the best and worst trade, and your note; or by day, month, quarter or year.

“Do I have to type it all in?”

No. Every trade journals itself.

Most journals die in week two, because typing every trade is a chore.

Revenge trading and overtrading don't feel like it at the time. The Journal remembers your state when you clicked (after a loss, the fifth trade of the day, near your daily limit) and shows how those trades went, so trading discipline is something you can see.

  • Planned vs what happened on every trade: did it follow your trading plan, and how it felt, if you note it.

no hiding from yourself,

Honest by design

A journal you can tidy up is a journal that lies to you. So this one doesn't let you.

Every trade stays

No deleting a bad trade, no hiding it from the stats. Want a clean start? Delete the whole journal.

Trades by hand count too

Manual trades, other EAs, phone trades: all in, as grey rows with their money.

No guessing

Every number comes from your own trades and your plan. Where there isn't enough yet, it stays quiet.

Notes yes, numbers no

Add notes, feelings and grades any time. The money and the R come from your platform and your plan, not from you.

Your switch

Account numbers are shown masked. The Journal and its chart pictures can each be switched off for any trading account.

Light on your platform

Your platform never stutters: on MetaTrader only the SizeOps chart waits a moment, usually 0.1–0.3 s.

Where it works

MetaTrader 4 and 5Forex, gold and indices, on your own broker.
NinjaTrader 8Futures: Nasdaq, S&P, gold, crude and the micros.
Your phoneThe whole Journal in your phone's browser. Rate trades on the go.
Starts todayFrom your next trade with SizeOps. No old trades to import.

the other half,

And every trade is sized right

The same SizeOps sizes each trade from your risk and your stop, commission in: lots on MetaTrader, contracts on NinjaTrader 8. That's why your Journal knows the plan.

  • Always rounded down, never over your risk.
  • A daily limit that refuses the next trade if it doesn't fit.
  • Partials and breakeven planned before you're in.

Trading journal FAQ

More in the FAQ

Yes. SizeOps sends each trade from your terminal as it happens: the plan, every step and the money. Nothing to import, nothing to type.

You don't: SizeOps does it from your platform. The Journal is on for every trading account from the start, so each trade lands by itself.

It's included in every plan and in the 7-day free trial, with no separate price.

No separate trading journal app to install: it works in your phone's browser, the whole Journal, including rating your trades.

Yes. The same Journal on NinjaTrader 8, a futures journal with contracts instead of lots and your commission from NinjaTrader's own executions; on MetaTrader it's your forex journal.

Yes, on MetaTrader 5 and MetaTrader 4 with any broker. Times come in true UTC and show in your own time zone.

12 more questions

No. Trades from before SizeOps have no plan, so the Journal can't measure them fairly. It starts the day SizeOps runs on your account.

They show as grey rows with their money, so your totals match your broker. They have no plan, so they're left out of every R number.

No, and that's on purpose: a history you can edit stops telling you the truth. You can delete your whole journal any time, in Account under Your data.

Only you. Our team looks only when you ask us for help. Switch it off for any trading account in Journal settings, or delete it any time.

No. On MetaTrader only the SizeOps chart waits a moment, usually 0.1–0.3 seconds, when it saves a step; NinjaTrader 8 sends in the background. Your broker's stop and target are never touched.

When it's back, the Journal catches up from your account history, including SizeOps trades that hit their stop or target meanwhile. On NinjaTrader 8 it catches up the current session only; on MetaTrader 4, what Account History shows.

Pictures are only taken while your platform is open with SizeOps running. Trades that close while it's off still come in, without a picture. A minimised chart gets no picture for that moment either.

One at each real step of a trade placed with SizeOps: Entry, each partial, BE triggered and the exit (target or stop hit). Only the chart itself, nothing else on your screen. You can switch them off.

Gross profit ÷ gross loss. Above 1 means you made money overall. The Journal shows it in Timing for any session you pick.

Jumping back in right after a loss to win it back, often bigger than your plan says. The Journal marks those trades and shows how they went, in Habits.

Taking more trades than your plan calls for. The Journal shows how your fifth trade of the day and later went, in Habits.

Trading on emotion after losses. The Journal shows your trades after two or more losses and near your daily limit, in Habits.
